On a take over this week of a fire system in a year old building, i found a sprinkler system.
It is a 3 storey house, sprinker to top flat only. Usually find a smoke vent system in the top flat, but not on this occasion.
Blue mains water pipe goes in to loft, then connected to flow monitor, then orange (probably cpvc) pipe to sprinkers.
No loft insulation or pipe lagging.
Flow meter connected to fire panel in flat electrical meter cupboard, tiny cupboard that houses fuse board and immersion heater - panel not on show - sounder strobe above panel in cupboard, lol, also bedhead type sounder outside cupboard.
Also fire panel fed from credit elec meter, panel was off due to no credit.
I have had a quick google at sprinkler regs/servicing - i always thought a tank was needed but obviously not (ive also read doug's info on this site)
There doesnt seem to anyway of testing flow.
Obviously client needs this to be serviced by someone, but what can i advise the client will be needed? How often will it need to be serviced? are they supposed to be doing any testing? i can't see that really.
Does the system i have described above sound about right.
I wont be servicing the system, its not my thing, but i will service the fire panel but i reckon that needs to be on show and have the sounder/strobe on the outside of the cupboard and not fed from a 20 amp mcb.
Cheers for enlightening me - never been near sprinklers before.
